Happy Anniversary Linda & Travis!

Linda and Travis are Martial Artists. This was my first attempt at these kinds of sugar figurines and  I tried to make Linda's arms with a little muscle, hopefully my next attempt will be better....(it's the thought that counts Linda :-).

The cake: A 3 layer carrot cake with an orange cream cheese frosting.

Pride and Falls

If you are a Christian who believes in the word of God then you should know Proverbs 16:18 that say's "Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall". For Mr Romney, he became over confident that he would win and only prepared a victory speech.

For President Obama as a reporter said today "I think he began to believe his own hype", for his first debate even though he is a good speaker he was not prepared and admitted afterwards that Romney was better prepared. Once he realized that the Presidency was about to slip away from him he began to wake up. 1 Cor. 10:12 say's "Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall".

If these two candidates were paying attention, there is a HUGE lesson to be learned. For myself it reminded me that Pride only leads to a fall so it's best to be humble and leave the rest to God. Also, even though Romney received the most popular votes President Obama received the only votes that counted.

I have never seen an election like this in my lifetime where a President received so many electoral votes. So as I've always known and was reassured last night while watching the elections, no matter what we try to do in order to change it had been Mr. Romney or the President.....God, is still in control, not us.

Back in Alabama when I turned 18 and was old enough to vote, I recall my Father taking me to the polls. They had these little ole ladies in the room and a ton of booths with curtains. My Father requested to go in with me since it was my first time voting and now when I think of that day I can only laugh out loud. Because he made sure I knew who I was voting for and why.
Every since that day I paid attention to the news and election day and knew how very important it was and that my vote did count.

The Pineapple Upside Down Cake Story

My Mom would bake this cake every Christmas for us 4 kids, she used dark brown sugar (I used light here) but we would all rush to get a corner and leave her with a "cross" in the middle. The corners were our favorites because that's where all the brown sugar and buttery goodness would wedge (and she made them a little crunchy as well).
Today my family had a Memorial to honor her memory because this was the day we laid her to rest. My sister first sent me a text this morning with a photo of the pineapple upside down cake she made simply entitled "For Mom". So I thought, why not! I decided to make one too and it turned out MUCH better than my first that I tried to make for my husband’s birthday (I forgot the pineapples and cherries....I know, HOW COULD I FORGET THE PINEAPPLE IN A "PINEAPPLE UPSIDE DOWN CAKE"??? The same way a person can forget the "Oatmeal" in "Oatmeal Cookies" (did that once too but, I'm not bragging, that was just embarrassing).
Another time when I was stationed in Italy, my Mom decided to ship me a pineapple upside down cake! I was SO surprised and SO excited to get that box you have NO IDEA! It was the most JACKED up cake by the time it reached me but it was still in the packaging and I think I tried to eat the ENTIRE cake before I even got it out of the box (it was lunch time anyway :-). It was like having a piece (or pieces) of home and just made my day (my husband’s as well but....he didn't get to eat much of it..Oopsy!).
But my Sister and I have decided from now on that each year on November 4th we would both make pineapple upside down cakes a sweet gesture for the sweetest Mom.
